November 2008

I have been so tired that I’ve been neglecting my blog. So sorry!! But I’m glad to see you’re all still popping by. Thank you :)

I haven’t been painting lately. Just dabbling in a little bit of sketching and trying to keep up with the house work! Motherhood has taken over since we got back. It’s not such a bad reason to be keeping things quiet on the art front is it?

Today my Hubby and I shifted ALL of my gear out into what was my brothers room/sleepout. It’s been sitting unused since he left last year. He and his wife will be shifting in with us for a while so we’ve moved some things around, given them the spare room/study and I’ve taken over the new ‘studio’. I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner! My youngest was helping Daddy shift everything around, he loves to create as well… Santa may need to bring him his own paint set.. He now calls is ‘My House’. He was so cute trying to carry everything around for me. I’ll pop up some photos when I’ve had a chance to organise it properly.

I have just finished listing on TradeMe, a whole heap of paintings from the year … and boy did it take forever so I certainly hope some sell, they’re EXTREMELY affordable compared to usual gallery prices. I’ve done this for multiple reasons from because it heps my creative juices flow, to getting myself back in the game, to meet new clients, to making some extra money for Christmas etc.

Have a look here and pass the link on to your friends if you think they’d be interested in some original NZ art. My art listings.

There has been a recipe making the rounds on the boards and blogs I visit so i wanted to share the brilliant recipe here too.
Ever need a quick sweet fix? I do! Unfortunately I haven’t tried this yet because I know if I do it once, it’ll become a regular thing and that doesn’t go well with my healthy living plan… so I’ll just pass along the goodies to all of you hehe.

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons of flour
4 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons of milk
3 tablespoons of oil
3 tablespoons of chocolate chips (optional)
A splash of vanilla extract

and of course

A coffee mug

Directions:
Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well.
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract and mix again.
Place the mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
Don’t be alarmed if the cake rises over the top of the mug!
Allow the cake to cool a bit and then turn over onto plate.

Once you’ve made this, please let me know if it’s good enough for me to be naughty! ENJOY

I’ve been tagged!

by Chavah Kinloch on November 12, 2008

Owner of the new and fantastic blog The Craft Chook (my Aunty Brenda) has tagged me.

So the rules are:

I have to list 6 things about myself that you don’t know

1. I attended 5 high schools in 2 and a half years. I moved a lot, sometimes staying with my parents other times not. On my 16th birthday I was done with all the moving and trying to find somewhere to stay put that I left school and began working on what I wanted.

2. I just learned the word bibliophile. It was on my aunts’ ‘tagged’ page. It seems as though I am also one. I collect books, mostly non-fiction because I also like to learn. I dream of having a library like the one The Beast has on the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast… yes the cartoon one hehe.

3. My favourite animal is a pig. I just love them. I find them cuter than dogs, although I also love dogs. I had one in primary school called Jamie. We named it after a girl in my brothers class. They killed her and up until aboout 2 years ago, I never ate pork. I have a stuffed toy pig my husband bought me when we first started dating. I called him Wallace, named after the late Notorous B.I.G.- Christopher Wallace… I like hip hop.

4. I am like a magpie in stores. I zoom in on anything shiny and glittery, colourful, unique, funky or has the potential to be used as something else. I don’t think I have any one single item inside the house that cost me more than $500. Maybe one day, but then again maybe not because that doesn’t concern me. We get a lot of “Is this your house?” because it’s actually decorated and no-one ever expects us to keep a ‘home’ as we “just don’t look the part”, apparently. It relates to some of my earlier experiences, I always wanted a place to call home that really was my home, my husband promised me we would create one and we have :)

6. I have never felt comfortable in singlets. To this day I find it hard to wear one out in public and if I ever do, it’s because we’re going to the beach. It’s something I’m super duper self conscious about and always bring something to cover up with when I get overwhelmed.

OK, now I need to tag six people -

1. Melissa Muirhead
2. Tanya Dann
3. Sophia Elise
4. Marimba Powley
5. Sher Green
6. Sandra Toornstra

All fellow NZ artists!

The rules:
1. Link to the person or persons who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Long Time No See

by Chavah Kinloch on November 12, 2008

Howdy Strangers!

I apologise for the lack of posts recently. You see, my Husbands Grandmother recently had her 80th birthday and we had planned a surprise visit to her. I wasn’t able to tell you because sneaky people on the internet may have caught wind and given the surprise away. We’ve been gone almost 2 weeks and we had the most wonderful time being together as a family, catching up with relatives from both sides of the family, meeting new babies and laughng till we had stitches in our sides with old friends. I LOVED all the outings with the chidren. It was just fanastic. Now it’s back to the regular routine and you know what? That’s fantastic too! I’m enjoying being home and for some reason I’m on cloud nine. I hope this doesn’t stop any time soon.

Now for your viewing pleasure a few (well maybe a bit more than a few) photos from our trip.

The Little Mermaid

Arrrr a Pirate

Tigger

Andrew and Barbara (His Gran)

1,2,3 Go!

We all fall down

The great-grandkids

My boys

As cold as Antarctica … or Invercargill

A smiling stingray at Kelly Tarltons

Look, an octopus

Nas loves microscopes and telescopes so he was in heaven.

Listening to the ocean.

On a Ferry to Devonport

Outside on the ferry.

Gold Class cinemas, Albany.

The crew at Dennys, Manukau.

Chasing the poor sheep at One Tree Hill.

Our first home! The toilet fell through the floor here. It used to be blue and white and have a big tree in the front yard and tonnes of graffiti on the fence. The council are working pretty hard at keeping South Auckland tidy it seems because the day we took this photo it was the cleanest I’ve ever seen it.

Artist painting outside Botany Town Centre. Spotted him again at Otara Flea Markets. His name isMarcus and I plan on comissioning a piece.

Us at the temple. Sister Dallas gave us a tour around the renovated visitors centre and we watched a few short dvds.

Awww, sometimes they’re so cute.

Other times they remind me too much of myself….

Trucks all around us.

Beautiful colours at the flea markets!

Wrestling masks lol. I love it.

A bike painted green…hmmm…it’s not stolen…

Samoan acessories.

LOL.

Pineapple on a stick! So good on a hot Saturday morning.

He’s got the whole world in his hands.

They went shopping with my Mum and won a $100 voucher and got their faces painted.

Movenpick at Mission Bay. The cue was this long alllll night. DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE! It was crap. Some things really are just bout real estate.
