I’ve basically spent the day preparing my pieces to take with me to Auckland. I think I’ve had a million breaks today, focusing right now seems to be a bit of an issue! I just want a break. 2 more days… Then I’ll get 4days to myself. It’s kind of bitter sweet. All school holidays I thought the children started back on Tuesday. I was really excited to see them off and help them get ready for school on their first day back. I recently learned they start back on Wednesday which means I will miss their first day back
I know I don’t really need to be there for it but I feel a bit guilty, I’m always there. I like sending them off with extra big cuddles and seeing them go into their new classrooms. My flight leaves on Tuesday night though so it’s a no go this year.
On a positive note though, I have half a painting to go before I can begin packing. That means, I’m right on schedule. Woo hoo. Even with all the breaks I’ve had today it’s coming together nicely.
I’m crossing my fingers my bangles get here on time. Please fate…let them arrive on time.
I wandered around my home to see how things were going today. I was beginning to feel a little unattached after focusing on work stuff so much. Here’s what I found hanging in my daughters room:

OMG. LOL! She sounds just like me. Yikes
I decided to explore a little more with my camera and stumbled across this:

Nas was reading to Boston. After 2 months away from school I’m glad to say he can still read lol. I let them read books every night before bed but you just never know what’s really happening with this kid
. He’d rather paint on the ceiling…True story.
I noticed our place was a little bit quiet… I started to worry because quiet doesn’t even come close to describing my household so I went outside to double check everything was ok. Which it was, thankfully.

I just happened to spot my daughter sitting on the rail of the stairs up to my studio, staring off into space. I wonder what she was thinking about. It seems to be her new favourite place. She made mud and spilled it all over my steps the day before…Lucky me.
If they spot me, they tend to follow me so in the end this is what surrounded me after my adventure exploring my home:

Excuse the mess on the floor. I did vacuum yesterday but you can never tell anymore lol.
This photo cracks me up. They get happier as you go along. I’m going to miss them.
So that was that. A beautiful end to my adventure. Hope you enjoyed your glimpse into my Sunday.

It’s probably not a surprising choice to you but it still makes me a little bit sad inside. Especially when I found out that the tutor bumped into a friend of mine the other day and they chatted about how he was looking forward to having me as part of the class. If that sentence didn’t give it away, I’ve chosen to work from home.
I’m sad I’ll miss out on time alone, away from the house to get out and about like a regular person and the fact that in 3 years I won’t have a degree to show that I put in a whole lot of work but now I’ll just have to come up with some new aspirations. I do love being home for my family and I’m really excited about pimping out my garage but I won’t be able to set myself up until about May/June. I might be able to start in April but realistically I’m expecting later because I’ve got a few other projects to do first before I venture onto converting the garage into a workspace.
I’ve found a course I’ll do from home that I’m really excited to do. I have a well known Pacific Island Sculptor that has offered to share his knowledge with me anytime I’m ready and I’m on the lookout for night classes this year. I’ll only do one thing at a time though so I don’t spread myself too thin. Plus I have my own exhibitions and ideas to play around with, so that should keep me pretty busy!
So now I’ll be hunting around for masses of storage, power tools and bulk art supplies. My heart is fluttering already. Can’t wait for the months to fly by so I can get started.
Here’s to big ideas, big goals and seeing our deepest desires come true. This years going to be a fun one.
For the past hmmm 6 months – a year I’ve been obsessed with all things yellow. I resist my urge to splash out on fancy, pretty things but I’m willing to bet that over the next year my house will somehow end up with splashes of yellow in every room. My wardrobe’s likely to inherit a few items too. It’s just so bright and cheerful. It stirs up something in me. That’s why my blog is yellow! I just love the colour right now.
So for your visual stimulation here is some yellow loveliness.
For the Wardrobe: (Remember not to wear it all at once!)

This bag is A-MA-ZING
For your home:

Pigs - I love pigs.
I need a lounge suite sometime this year… maybe I should try to find a yellow one? Think I could convince the hubby?
A corner of one of the paintings that will be on show. Your exclusive sneak peek.
So we’re just over a week away from First Thursdays now. If you’re in Auckland, come down for the art walk/show. It’s on K Road, 4th Feb, 6pm on. Te Karanga Gallery will be showing 5 or so artists (me), there’s verona cafe, St Kevin’s arcade and I’m told there’ll be drinks flowing and a live DJ set in the gallery too. It’s free, open to all. Lots of original and hand made work for sale. You can always just pop down to say Hi too, I’d like that. For those really keen for a night out there’s going to be an after-party at Khuja Lounge.
Today I spent the day painting again – LOVE. I sketched some designs, completed some paintings and am pretty happy with the results. Hope you make it next week so you can see some of the new creations!
The Lonely Loner Artist: Chavah Kinloch
- You appreciate that your art doesn’t have to match your couch, curtains, carpet…
- You look at everything and see something that doesn’t exist but could if you did ‘this or that’ to it.
- You can’t stand to have anything on your hands..unless it’s paint.
- You have 2 sets of clothes. Your clothes with paint on them and your clothes that are yet to get paint on them. I just ruined another top yesterday…
- You get snippy with everyone and everything unless you’re able to create.
- Your walls, floor, spare room, shelves… basically any spare space you have is lined with art materials and creations.
- The thought of 50% off art supplies is more exciting than your upcoming birthday.
- You think you have the best job in the world.
That’s all I can think of for now. Join in if you can
