21 Days of Accountability – Day 10

by Chavah Kinloch on August 21, 2010

Helloooooo!

I know, I’m SUPER late in posting today but I’m sure you’ll forgive me. It’s Saturday in NZ and I’ve been out doing what I should be doing, spending time with my family.

That’s today’s topic.

Involve family and friends.

The easiest way to fail in this weight loss journey is to stop doing what you need to do because of family commitments. I should know. This is how I ended up here!

I write this from a ‘Mummy’ point of view because that is my issue. I know there are others out there without children but still have work, school, family and friendship commitments that keep them busy.

So here’s what to do, whatever your life circumstances may be. When it comes to time to hang out with family and friends, make it figure friendly.

Instead of sitting for a coffee and cake, go for a walk and have a healthy lunch afterwards. Instead of just watching movies as a family (which we love to do and will carry on doing) put on your togs and go for a swim (that’s where we’ve been the past 2 weekends!). You can jump on your bikes and ride around the block, walk through the park to feed the ducks and have a light picnic, or go for a bush walk (hike, for my U.S. buddies). I know where I live we have a lot of family friendly tracks.

If you have teenagers they can go to the gym with you. Get together and play frisbee in the yard or rugby or softball, or basketball in the driveway.

For workers, I’ve even heard of walking meetings. Staff pop on their sneakers and walk around to discuss their business matters. Freash air does inspire new ideas after all.

There are a lot of simple things to do with family and friends that can help keep us on track and I’m slowly making my way through each of them. As I’m doing them, I just can’t for the life of me figure out how I ever let these habits slip away.

So the challenge for the day – get out and about with your family or friends. Not only is it good for fitness but isn’t it great to just have an excuse to hang out?

Happy weekends everyone. xx

We’ve been starting our evening walks around here as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer. :)

Mim! I totally forgot about pets. You’re so lucky :D Andrew and I are both animal lovers but figure the way we’ve been popping kids out it was best to wait until we were done before we got a pet. So hopefully soon we’ll get ourselves something and we can follow in your footsteps :D

Oh beautiful Helen! I’ve been hanging out for the warmer, drier, lighter evenings. I love that spring is just around the corner now, I think I’ll be following in your footsteps as well. You ladies are inspiring.

We have so many amazing walking tracks in NZ, there isn’t really an excuse not to check them out! The bulk of them are very family friendly!! Check out the DOC website for some in your area that you may not be aware of! :)
