21 Days of Accountability – Day 13

My extremely reliable source – A personal trainer and my cousin

I’m very, very tired today! I didn’t get enough sleep so I’m behind schedule. On the bright side, on the very bright side actually, it is so nice outside it’s motivating enough to get out there to enjoy it.

Today’s topic is testosterone.

I know, it seems a little weird but bare with me.

Most people will understand that testosterone plays a part in weight loss but I’ll do my best to explain why it’s so important.

Testosterone is the reason my husband will drop weight almost twice as fast as I will. He’s male and is simply born into this ability. His metabolism is generally faster because he has more testosterone which has produced more muscle on his body; he therefore, can burn more calories when he’s not even doing anything.

For me though, and pretty much every other woman, our bodies are built to store fat for reproductive reasons. We also have testosterone, just not nearly as much.

Testosterone dictates how much lean muscle mass a person can build. The more muscle you build the quicker you burn calories and you don’t get stuck storing unnecessary fat.

Yep, I’ve known all of the above information for years and yet I still managed to get fat.

So obviously, what we want to do is increase our testosterone so that we have more muscle and can burn calories even when resting.

How exactly do we increase testosterone? Strength training and eating foods that naturally boost the production of testosterone; like garlic and ginger.

I’ve encountered a LOT of women who don’t want to lift weights because they’re scared of getting bulky. Let me just say that that is extremely unlikely. You’d need a bodybuilding regime to get like that and I’ve read what they eat and how they exercise, it’s hard core. Your everyday woman, like myself, would not come close to sculpting a body like that. I’m pretty happy about that, it’s not my ideal but I do respect how much effort is put in.

Building testosterone and getting enough sleep to boost growth hormone go hand in hand. Without one, the other just isn’t going to happen very easily.

So your challenge for the day – get to boosting that testosterone using one of the above methods.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.

I was thinking regarding this just this evening…. and voila, I’m reading about it right now on your weblog. Coincidence or what?
