21 Days of Accountability – Day 5

by Chavah Kinloch on August 16, 2010

I’m in need of an anthem. I wrote a post earlier in the year that talked about my past anthems, you can read it here.

What is an anthem? It’s a song that conjures up feelings of empowerment and increases your desire to achieve and meet your goal, whatever that goal may be.

I’m a firm believer that music can help you burn more calories. Surely somewhere there’s a statistic out there that can help me out… It makes you fidget when you’re sedentary and during a workout it pushes you to keep up to the beat that’s pumping through your ears. It makes you move and you feel good doing it. Everything’s more fun with music.

Do you have an anthem? Can you recommend a song that could maybe be my perfect new anthem? Let me know!

Good music is essential for a great sweat session IMO. I don’t know why it is but my gym doesn’t always have music playing. On the occasion that I’ve for some reason forgotten to bring my own music, I’ve found it a real struggle to either work out to music I didn’t like, or no music at all. It gets on my nerves that although I’ve worked out, it’s felt like a drag the whole time. Therefore my ipod is a life saver. Best investment ever.

Your challenge today – put on your favourite music and move.

Right now I desperately need some new music though! I have some really great movers but they’ve been on my ipod for a while and I need to switch it up. I’d love to hear what you have on your playlist. There are so many great songs that slip my mind.

On a side note – I went to bed earlier than I have in years yesterday. I was so excited. Then come 12:00am Boston started screaming and hasn’t stopped since. Alll night…allllll day. My day is going sh*t and I cannot wait to get to the gym in an hour. I’m freakin tired but I welcome the break.

Ok back to it, leave me a song recommendation if you will :) Hope your day is going smoother than mine!

Human by the killers. I love it. Online it says “The song may be about one of the fundamental human questions..”What are we? What does it mean to be a human? Are we just human animals or is there something more in us, something special, something spititual which gives our existence meaning?..in other words ….Are we dancer?” Its been my post kids anthem, it reminds me to be the dancer and rediscover what I was before mother, in amongst the humdrum that is preschoolers and mumslave, can I find the dancer within me…… plus its awesome to exercise and blast whilst driving (child free of course!)

Funny you mention that song Penny, I sat watching that video multiple times in one day just the other week. It’s not my usual type of music but I noticed the message so I ended up really enjoying it. Definitely see it as an anthem now!

I always put on “Battle without Honor or Humanity” by Tomoyasu Hotei – it’s a song from the movie Kill Bill. It always makes me feel ready to kick someone’s ass. lol

Ohhhh I love Kill Bill and all things Japanese. (I’m assuming that’s where Tomoyasu is from.) Added to my list!
