artists

I mentioned last week I was still working on a few projects. One of the projects I’ve got going on is a postcard exhibition in Moss, Norway. I decided I would send along a little pen, pencil and watercolour piece I created earlier in the year.

The exhibition is curated by David Sandum and all the artists have come together from Twitter! How fun is that?  Every postcard is for sale at 200kr/$35.00, Moss Public Library in Norway. So if I happen to have any Norwegian readers out there, maybe you can go along. I hear that Moss is known for it’s galleries and that it’s people love art. All proceeds will be donated to the Moss Public Library, who have recently had their fundings cut and were, until now, unable to purchase the children’s books they needed. I’m a big believer in instilling a passion in children for reading. Once that one ability is there, they can accomplish so much in the future because of it.

And in other news, today I get to announce the winner of the original painting ‘Heartstring’.

I’ll be in touch via email to get your details.

There are more giveaways coming, some exclusively for those on my mailing list so don’t forget to sign up to be kept informed.

Getting Rid of Mondayitis

by Chavah Kinloch on November 8, 2010

Don’t you just love it when you have a great mail day? Instead of bills all you get are things like cheques, presents and magazines.

Well I didn’t get any cheques today sadly (hehe) but I did, however, receive four Artist Trading Cards from four fellow NZ Artists. Yay!

A big thank you to Collette Fergus, also a fabulous artist,  for organising the exchange.

You can find the group here on Facebook to read more about it and maybe even join in next time.

1. Denita Tizard 2. Lauryne Hart 3. Donna Steel 4. Gerda Smidt

How amazing are these? I love them. I’m framing mine and eventually I’ll get the space organised to display my ever growing art collection by NZ artists. So far I have work by Toni Eyre, Sophia Elise, Sharlene Schmidt and Amy Mackiewicz. The paintings are currently on display throughout the house but what I really want to do is use them in a feature wall.

I’m thinking about (and have been thinking for about a year already) putting together a display arrangement similar to this:

The wall has to wait until I’m through with my current project though. Those are my rules! No new projects (house-wise) until the last one is finished. It’s a good thing because I have about 100 new ideas a minute. You all know how I’m doing Boston’s room lol. It was meant to be done a year ago! Those of you wanting to see the progress all in one place can have a look through these posts:

We’ve made more progress on the room but I haven’t taken photo’s. We’re sooo close! I’m so excited.

On a side note, I do already have a fun wall in my home. For a glimpse at my black and white feature wall, take a look here at this post.

Now go check your mail, maybe you got something exciting too. I got my latest Your Home and Garden magazine as well today, it’s made me giddy for Christmas! This has been a nice way to get rid of my Mondayitis.

Every year the NZ Art Guild and it’s members take part in a collaborative project. The finished product is then revealed at the Emerge exhibition and auctioned off on TradeMe to raise money and awareness for The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. 100% of the proceeds are donated.

This year’s project is titled Bloom. It incorporates 64 individual artworks, created by 62 New Zealand artists that were invited to interpret the theme New Beginnings and Growth. The collaborative project results in an artwork 1/3m x 1.3m.

Can’t wait to see this year’s result!

I’ll be sure to put the link up to the auction once the reveal is done.

Those in Auckland are invited to the Emerge exhibition and reveal of Bloom at Bruce Mason Centre, 6:30pm, 2nd July 2010.

If you’ve got Chavah Kinloch – Contemporary Artist on your Facebook you’ll probably have heard all this by now but now that I have a moment, I can catch everyone else up on my artist life. Things have been really busy and I’ve had a few late nights to get through it all. There’s always something going on behind the scenes for me and I keep quite quiet about it so I can just focus on what I need to get done.  So here’s what’s been happening.

First up:

The Undy Four Hundy exhibition is still on at Fusion Gallery in Lumsden and will run until June 12th.

Second:

I received this in my email the other day and thought it was quite cool. I put some art up a few months ago and forgot but it’s nice to see it’s being appreciated.

Third:

I have a small exhibition happening at the Koru Lounge at Invercargill’s airport. There are new works up and it’s a pity the venue is so exclusive but I’m excited to have been approached to have my work displayed there.

As you can see, I’m still all go with my painting and have been enjoying working on large canvases again. My nails are stained blue after a few full on days blending and throwing paint around and now that I’ve moved my gear out from my little studio, into my dining room I’ve managed to get paint absolutely everywhere! Oops! It was fun though, totally worth it.

Tomorrow I’ll update you on my yellow chair. See you then. Happy weekend everyone!

I finished one painting and have packaged it ready to send back to be part of this years NZAG collaborative project, so half way to completing another thing on my list. It’s done on a small piece of wood.

The big reveal of the collaboration will be done at the Bruce Mason Centre on July 2nd in conjunction with the 2010 Annual Members Exhibition. It will then be auctioned on Trade Me. All proceeds will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation of NZ.

Right now I’m dying for some big, fresh, new canvases. Instead I only have some small fresh ones, some small boards or some larger incomplete pieces I’m absolutely ready to paint over. It’s a dilemma I know a tonne of other artists face regularly. My mind is full of ideas! I think it’s time to clear my walls so I can restore my stock and let progression take place. It’s really hard to  move on when surrounded by work. Why is that I wonder?

I’ve got two shows coming up in the next couple of weeks, one in Lumsden and one in Auckland. Opposite ends of the country, yikes!  Exciting though. I’ll put up a full list of details so that if you’re in the area, you can stop by.

I’m taking to sketching a lot right now. I’m really feeling the need to unleash some big bold strokes and get messy though. I just feel like I’m editing myself.

I’m usually really good at allocating time for each little thing that needs to get done but a baby really limits how much time you can spend on any one thing. He’s still going through a very clingy stage right now. I’m sure this stage will be over all to soon though and I’ll completely forget I ever had this issue. He’s  into EVERYTHING. So the dilemma of keeping my gear out of his way so he doesn’t pull it on himself or eat it is always there. I have a studio up the back of the house but I rarely use it because I like being in the house. So I usually take over whatever space I can lol.

Oh well, I’ve dealt with the issue of keeping little ones away from my gear 3 times before, I’m sure I can do it once more! It’s funny how quickly you forget about these different stages.

Now, after all this talk of painting, I think I see tomorrow being filled with nothing but painting during naptime and playing with a baby.

Art Lovers Luncheon 2010

Wow, I am shattered right now. Today was the Art Lovers Luncheon at the Kelvin Hotel, Invercargill. It was a great experience, the organisers did a really good job. After a rough start- the 3M hooks we had to use, wouldn’t stick to the wall – I ended up creating a makeshift display using a [...]

Art Lovers Luncheon Tomorrow

It’s going to be a busy and hopefully fun day tomorrow. I think I’ve got everything sorted, although I am still trying to figure out how to stand up some of my pieces that have nothing to hold them up on the back of their frames. Tomorrow I’m part of an Art Lovers Luncheon taking place [...]
