Spotty like a spotted thing.
We’re making seriously impressive progress now. The kids have decided they want to join in too so they’ve been given odd jobs to help us out. Isn’t it great when kids want to help so badly that they’re happy to pick up rubbish or attempt to vacuum?
I would feel bad if they weren’t smiling the whole time.
They just want to be part of the process. One by one they come and stand at the door to talk to us while we sand and plaster. They happily keep their baby brother amused doing all sorts of sibling bonding activities and come back to tell us the stories. They really are good children. I’m proud to be their Mum.
We’ve now finished plastering and sanding the walls (the second time around). The walls have been cleaned, yet again, preparing the surface; and we’re all ready to take a giant step forward. I’m SO excited!
When we first began this project Boston was so tiny, he had different needs. I had specific ideas for how the room would look but now, seeing as he’s almost 14months old, he’s developed a personality and is able to do all sorts of things. Thankfully the original plan was one that had thought about this dilemma and I chose colours that would allow the room to progress with him as he got older. He’s going to end up in a room with his brothers in a few years so I also planned something I could easily refurbish to suit a new need.
The kids are off for an early night to read books in bed and Andrew and I will be back in the room ready to finish off the last of the prep work. I can’t believe we’re so close to getting some colour on the walls!
In the meantime here are the photo’s I came across all that time ago that inspired the colour choice for this room. I’m going with blue!
Hold on…didn’t the room start out as blue?

Not so sure my room will turn out anywhere near as fabulous as these rooms… but I’ll have fun creating it anyway!
My husband and I have been working overtime setting up my new blog over on wordpress. We’re doing this because of the ongoing issue between IE and blogger. I can tell you that we’re almost there! If all goes well we’ll be launching on New Years Day. If things don’t go quite so well it’ll be within the week. So do stay tuned. I’ve also been busy with the family these past few days. There have been water fights, teething dramas, illnesses, hayfever and movie days. Everywhere else in NZ seems to be getting sun, we’re still battling rain and wind with 2 hours of glorious sunshine here and there.
This is the last week before the Random Act of Kindness Challenge finishes for the year and the winners are announced. Have you done yours? Be sure to let me know where you’ve put your entries so I can read them and put you on the list the appropriate number of times. I love reading what you’ve been up to. I can’t wait to see where the paintings will be headed. Don’t forget that every entrant will also receive two wallpapers of my artwork for their pc. These will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the challenge so make sure you include an email address for me to contact you. If you’ve forgotten to include one don’t worry, just email at chavahkinloch@xtra.co.nz and we’ll sort it out.
Can you believe there’s only one more day left in 2009? Wow. I’m excited, are you?
Here are some snapshots from the past few days of the kids and some of their Christmas gifts.

Davis set up camp.

Riding his new bike.

Testing out her new cupcake maker. Mucky business.

The cupcakes she made for her brothers.

Filling up a water pistol.

Vahnija went and set up her own picnic, complete with strawberries. I love my kiddos.

A bunch of paint we picked up on boxing day for Bostons nursery. You can see pics of what’s going on
here and
here. We’ll be doing more on the nursery this week. Yay!

Lots and lots of fun. Water fights. Need I say more.

The boys prepping.

My little terror. So lovable.

The money shot! lol

How cute are these chubby little feet? The jandals are from my cousins in Utah. I think they’re from Old Navy. They barely fit my gigantor of a baby. This may be the only time he gets to wear them
Ok then guys, you requested it so here’s a little preview. Warning, the following content may cause viewers to want to want to run away screaming and set their eyes on fire due to explicit ugliness.
The Before Shots:
Curtains removed and furniture shifted to the middle of the room

Opposite side of the room. Scoring the wallpaper, prepping for removal.

Boston playing and watching. Big kids cleaning their rooms.

Getting down to business. 1 layer off.

Some of the aftermath.
Then we found this:

The 70′s wallpaper

The wallpaper from the 80′s

Remnants of the 90′s wallpaper…and of course the original blue layer was late 90′s/early 2000′s wallpaper. 4 decades haha.
So that’s where we are now. It was a lot of fun ripping down all the paper. The only gross thing was when we were wetting it down with the water stripping mixture and it was dripping down our arms. Apart from that it was pretty easy. The kids were great, letting us just get on with it. Love their easygoing nuture.
AND THIS:
Is an awesome trademe find. I had to ask the dealer directly to make it and list it but it was totally worth it. So much so I’m going back and ordering more. This is a 40cm Plain text capital B. I originally bought it to put inside a LARRRGE yellow frame on a white background. I was going to paint this yellow to match the frame but have since changed my mind because I love it so much. I may do the frame thing on a smaller scale because it’s cute but this large letter rocks my world. You’ll see what I have in store for it at a later date.
