These Kids Have Moves

by Chavah Kinloch on April 24, 2010

Just so no one freaks out – they don’t have weird lips, they’ve got their mouth guards in.

First game of rugby this season! It was a cold morning. I hate to think just how much colder it’s going to get over the next couple of months. They’re already wearing thermals and my little guy’s got a jumper on underneath his top – which is size 9?!  lol.  It was just a tad big as you can see.

Nas scored a try and got the crowd cheering with his defensive tactics throughout the whole game and Davis just followed the group around, excited that he got to touch the ball hehe. I had a lot of fun in the 20 minutes I got to spend outside of the car. Boston fell asleep on the drive there so I stayed with him. My daughter had her little buddy there too which kept her occupied. They ended up playing water girls for their brothers. All in all a really fun family morning with smiles all around.

After a hearty lunch to fill up the busy little bodies we put on some music. The kids started dancing in the living room and then started trying to breakdance. I LOVE this. When my hubby and I were dating we spent a lot of time at breakdancing gigs around Auckland. I even dated a a couple of bboys back in the day, so seeing how keen they were to get into breakdancing I figured I’d find some tutorials for them to learn some basic moves. So today we started working on the 6 step, the Baby Freeze and the Monkey Flip. So fun! My daughter did really well with the 6 step, my eldest son mastered the freeze and they’re both pretty good at a very basic monkey flip. My girl actually managed to flip right into a handstand but I missed the shot. She did it again and umm… sprained her wrist. Sorry Mums. She’s fine though and we bandaged it up for support so she could carry on being wreckless. Let kids be kids I say! She was more annoyed by our insistence she wear something for support for the  rest of the day than anything else. They were back into their flips straight away. I didn’t get anything on my list done today but I had a tonne of fun messing around with my kids which more than makes up for it. Bring on tomorrow! They’re keen for more.

I got some video footage of it all but I need to figure out how to put all the little clips together into one video first. I’ll upload it when I’ve got it sorted. For now here are some shots:

The baby freeze.

Not to be outdone, Davis showed us his forward roll :D

No idea what you call this but the kids balance on their hands with their legs on their eblows.

Some breakers dancing at First Thursdays right next to my walls. Sorry don’t know what their crew is called but apparently they teach at Youthtown for $4. I liked the guy in the white tee’s style.
