Food For Thought

by Chavah Kinloch on February 8, 2011

As promised I’ve got some food ideas and recipes to share with you in preparation of Valentines Day. So without further ado:

1. French Toast Kebabs – No recipe but pretty straight forward! Image found here.

2. Heart shaped eggs and toast – I want this :P Recipe here if you need it.

3. Red Velvet Whoopie Pies – So cool. Recipe here.

4. Simple muffins with a heart stencil – Image found here.

5. Heart Cake – Isn’t it decadent! Get the recipe here.

6. Four Cheese Ravioli – A vegetarian option for dinner. Looks delicious. Recipe here.

7. Hot Chocolate with Marshmellow Hearts – A simple way to celebrate. Thanks Martha Stewart.

So there you have it, from the super simple to the extravagant, you can plan to indulge yourself and loved one/s this upcoming Valentines Day. As my friend Kelly says “I’m allergic to the kitchen” so my go-to’s would be the simple type. My hubby however will more than likely cook something indulgent, so I imagine the ravioli would be his choice. Homemade pasta and all. Yum!

Well no, maybe it’s not that I wish I were getting married, I think I just wish I could throw a huge party, dress up and take a million photos. I am already married, I’ve been married for nearly 8 years now, can you believe that? 8 years! Together for nearly 10… and we still spend most of our time cuddling and making out. We’re so disturbing.

I cry at every wedding. TV weddings, complete strangers weddings as I drive past, BFF’s weddings… I’m just the ultimate wedding crier. If you’re a regular here, you’ll realise this is really the only time I cry.

Me & my two BFF’s. At BFF in the middle’s wedding where I cried all day.

Have you seen some of the weddings that people are having nowadays? They’re amazing! I wish I were friends with more engaged people, just so I could get my wedding fix.

My favourite weddings are the simple, vintage inspired ones. I love seeing people use uncommon objects as their decor and my heart skips a beat when I see women wearing gorgeous colourful shoes with their dress.

Why weren’t these trends around when I got married?! Things would have been so much easier. We didn’t want the ‘traditional’ engagement photo where we dressed up and had a photo shoot with fake smiles. It caused a lot of tension (the whole thing seemed to?!) that in the end I called off the wedding and a month later we flew to Invercargill and we had a tiny ‘ceremony’ in my parents living room. I passed out five handwritten invitations the day before I got married. We only had our parents, our grandparents and our celebrant and his family (good friends) in attendance. It sounds simple and elegant but trust me, it wasn’t. It probably fits in lower on the scale than your regular registry office wedding. Anything but great.

Andrew & I about 8 years ago. The no-go engagement photo.

The one good…no great thing about the day is that Andrew became my husband and I became his wife. For that I am thankful. We have been intensely happily married ever since. Seriously, we sit around every night and make doe eyes at each other. I also love that I picked a low key public holiday as our wedding date so every year, Andrew and I get to spend the entire day together. Smart thinking on my part me thinks.

I have photo’s of the day somewhere… like 5 of them. Somewhere.

I would love to have had the chance to make hundreds of unique little gifts for people that came to celebrate something with me. I’d enjoy the decorating process, finding the perfect dress and choosing the most delicious cake and foods for the guests. We’ve talked about renewing our vows in a few years and for a while I thought we would do that. Times have changed and I’m sure things would be different this time around but I don’t think I’ll go down that path.

For your viewing pleasure, I’ve put together some gorgeous photo’s from around the world, of people’s exciting and enjoyable weddings. These are all picked because each photo shows individual flair and personality. That’s my kind of wedding!

Don’t you just wish you were invited to these weddings?:

Gorgeous Details:

Can’t forget the cake!:

Now doesn’t that just make you want to get married?! Or at least have a huge celebration right now.

How was your wedding? Do you have a story to share? Was it one of the greatest days of your life, filled with beautiful memories? I hope so!
