Happy Weigh In Day

by Chavah Kinloch on January 14, 2011

I’m in a very peaceful mood today. The sun is shining, my kids have been great, I have painting to do and thankfully, weigh in was just the icing on the cake.

I lost weight this week! Not much but the scales still moved in the right direction so that’s success. It’s the recommended amount of weight loss to ensure long term success; 500g aka 1lb (and a bit).

This week my lower body started looking different…which is a good thing. Really good in fact. I thought maybe it was all just in my head but after taking my measurements today I’m happy to say that I was right!

I lost 5.5cm from my hips and 4.5cm from my thigh. When my thighs are slim they’re still the equivalent to two of some womens but I’ve grown to love the chunk thanks to people like  Beyonce. God bless you Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Drew Barrymore.  It’s no longer a sin to be a woman with curves in this day and age…unless you live in L.A.

I’ve actually had a week off my workouts this week because I have a few injuries. It’s been more about good food and eating a lot. It seems good things happen when I rest. I’m hoping to get back into things tonight, things feel better enough for me to do something but it’ll still be another week or two before I’m able to really get right in there. So for now I’ll just be getting creative at home. We’ll see how it all goes! Might be time to pull out my boxing bag. Yay :D

After a quick survey on Twitter it appears that most people have already begun their Christmas shopping for friends and family. In fact, some have nearly finished! It looks like I’m a bit behind, I won’t be starting until this weekend.

I for once in my life, already know what the people I buy for will be getting but I have no idea what I want. I think all I want is Boston’s room finished lol.

Every year I seem to have the same discussion with my husband.

“What do you want for Christmas?”

“Nothing.”

“Same goes. I don’t need anything.”

We then come to the realisation that we don’t actually have to buy needs at this time and happily give and receive all those fun little things we’ve been eyeing up.

I have to say, during the Christmas sales we also do most of our shopping for the year. 50% off linen, towels, summer gear & clothes…uhh ok then. If you insist. Does anyone else shop during the sales?

We tend to go on a shopping binge 2-3 times a year to restock whatever it is that has become worn and tired over the past year. That way I can afford the better quality items (without guilt) and maybe even throw in a real showpiece for the home or wardrobe.

So here are some things that would be on my list:

What do you buy a woman who is infatuated with blogging? Well, here is a suggestion from me. Or should that read FOR me? *Hint hint nudge nudge, Santa.*

Blogger For Life tank – 15 EUR

Yesterday my house got attacked by a toddler who’d snuck into a room in progress and grabbed a roller covered in white paint. So now I need to replace a rug and I’d die a happy woman if I got my hands on any one of these:

Rugs from Anthropologie & Trade Me

Or how about some post it notes. I just think they’d make life more fun. Granted, I’m not too sure where I’d use them…
Maybe I could replace all the little coloured ‘sign here’ tabs that my lawyer and accountants send through.

I could possibly use them on my children’s terribly written and never proof read school newsletters and permission slips. In which case I’d much prefer these.  We did, in fact, get asked in the last newsletter if our 8 year old daughter had drug problems, smoked cigarettes, had an alcohol problem or the best yet…was pregnant. I think they ripped off a form from a high school. Great stuff huh, I felt really secure sending my kids off with them… *Warning bad language below*

Get the hint stickies – $6.00

Really though, I don’t know what I’d like for Christmas! I’d take anything but preferably things in past listings on my blog like here, here and here and I’ve already asked about power tools.

How about you? What have you got on your wish list?

One of the things people struggle with when losing weight is wrapping their head around food. Trust me, THIS I understand. Been there, it’s overwhelming.

It’s a long road to understand proper nutrition and I still have a lot to learn as well but there are some really simple guidelines you can take advantage of that really are easy to understand and put into practice.

The food you’re meant to eat to get healthy is completely different to the food you used to eat when you were packing on the weight. I know this!

There’s a lot to say on this subject and I’ll talk about it more but today I’m only talking about one thing. Soy.

You hear the word soy and you immediately think ‘healthy’. The truth is, if you’re trying to lose weight, you shouldn’t be touching the stuff.

Why not?

Because soy products have been shown to posses estrogen properties.

It’s recommended by many as a healthy substitute for meats but the problem with this is that the soy, through producing estorgen, counteracts the effect we’re trying to produce by boosting our testosterone.

Estrogen encourages the body to store fat. We want to minimise this effect so that all our efforts aren’t being thrown out the window. So tip of the day. Stop eating soy based products.

Now, onto weigh in!

It was a hard week this week. I was pretty tired. I think the past few weeks of carrying both my husbands and mines loads caught up with me. I didn’t deter from my goal though. There was A LOT of temptation going on at my house. My husband has been baking and well, his cooking is awesome. I didn’t slip though. When he was toasting his thick white home baked bread, I didn’t follow suit. I went to the gym instead.

I also encountered ovulation. What does this have to do with anything? Well, I was reminded that ovulation for me is even worse than menstruating. There are more cramps and bloating, cravings and exhaustion. Aren’t you glad you’re not me. I swear men have it so much easier. I’m working my butt of and my husband gets to make a half a$$ed attempt and still do better than me. Frustrating. I shouldn’t be so mean. He wants to work out but is still not physically allowed to.

This week I dropped 700grams taking my total weight loss to:

That averages out to 1kg for every week so far. I lost 7cm this week too. Total loss is now 107cm. I lost most of that from my abs and calves. Weird huh!

My husband bought me a summer dress on the weekend. (I know, nice hubby – I showed him which one to get lol) I put it on and the top part of it needed to be adjusted to fit because it was too big. *Small victory dance* The bottom half fit fine but IMO to really rock the dress my hips need to shrink a whole lot more. So, I’d better get moving this week. Hopefully I can make those hips shrink!

Courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent, guts. That’s what little girls are made of! The heck with sugar and spice.

Bethany Hamilton

I came across this quote a few months ago and have wanted to share it since then. Isn’t it great? It takes us women out of the ‘sweet’ box and shows that we’re just as intent on doing what we really want to do as any man out there.

I’m sorry for being so quiet last week. I had an awful week as far as rest goes. I spent the entire weekend sleeping and cleaning because I was barely able to function after five days of insomnia.

I don’t mind the lack of sleep, what bugs me is how badly it affects my ability to string sentences together. It renders me incapable of focusing and in turn my essential daily communication and work suffers. So all going well, this week we’re back to normal!

I’ve got some new businesses to introduce you to this week, by women who were once little girls but have grown to fit the exact description in the quote above. Well, maybe, like me, there’s still a bit of sugar and spice in them hehe. I look forward to sharing their details with you! I hope you’ll join me.

Catch you then :D

I thought I’d start the day off with a few how to’s. So we’re going to start with fascinator’s. Here’s an example from the fascinator I made back in September.

Now yours doesn’t have to be a blingy as I wanted mine to be. That’s ju st me, I like shiny things. So here’s what you’ll need.
Materials:
A regular clip or alligator clips – One or the other. In this example I used a diamante clip. You can purchase packets of regular plain clips from places like Spotlight.
A fake flower
Sequins
Packet of feathers
Glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Spray adhesive
Glitter pen
Instructions:

  • Spray the adhesive onto the select petals you want to put your sequins on. Wait for it to get tacky.
  • Place sequins on the sticky petals, starting from the top of each petal. Let dry.
  • Draw a small line of glitter across the top of a few of the petals that weren’t sequined. Let dry.
  • Figure out where you want to place your feathers and glue gun them to the back of the flower.
  • Glue gun your completed decorated flower to the top of your clip.
You’re done!!!
You could make a MUCH simpler version in about 2minutes. You can go as crazy or subtle as your personality allows. Enjoy :)
